Skeletal disorders, dental bad position and occlusal disharmony
What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry that relates the diagnosis and treatment of skeletal disorders, dental bad position and occlusal disharmony.
Orthodontic correction aims at correcting skeletal problems and aesthetic dental alignment in order to obtain a stable occlusion. For this specific, orthodontic devices are used: removable appliances and fixed appliances.
The first orthodontic diagnosis must be made at 6 years old for evaluation of skeletal problems and delays in tooth eruption that could be corrected with the functional devices (fixed or removable) through a "interseptiva orthodontics" that can be applied from 6 to 12 years.
The fixed orthodontic appliance can be placed at 12 years old to dental alignment and correction of disharmony in the patient's bite. Orthodontic treatment can also be carried out in adults with periodontal good support.
The evolution of techniques and orthodontic materials and new methods allows more options, resulting in a faster comfortable and aesthethic for the patient.
Conventional orthodontics is based on the fixed appliance placement with metal brackets and a sequence of metal arches.
Although older, conventional orthodontic have innovated in recent years and although the orthodontic appliance is visible from an aesthetic point of view, this is still a convenient option to the patient and a comprehensive and effective mechanical one.
To address the aesthetic problems of conventional orthodontics, there are fixed appliances with ceramic brackets and aesthetic arches, which have an approximate color of the color of tooth enamel, or even transparent, in order to camouflage the elements of braces.
Although aesthetic, the brackets are bulkier and are more likely to fracture.
The most innovative concept in aesthetic orthodontics comes with Invisible Orthodontics which is based on two next-generation systems: Lingual Orthodontics and Invisalign System.
In lingual orthodontics the orthodontic appliance is placed on the surface of the lingual tooth , allowing dental alignment.
Invisalign system is based on a sequence of transparent gutters, that allow small adjustments of poor dental positioning a convenient and invisibly.MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
