What is an implant tooth?

A dental implant is a medical titanium device well tolerated by the body , which holds the tooth root function that have been lost. The implant is inserted directly into the jaw bone. The healing time is 8 to 12 weeks.  After this time , it is placed on the implant a prosthetic structure (crown, bridge or prosthesis) that will allow you to chew and smile in a natural way.

Notes to the patient
The placing of the implant is usually done under local anesthesia in order to guarantee the absence of pain during the proceadure.
Postoperative discomfort will be controlled with proper medication to effect.

When using an implant and what are its advantages?

The implants can be used for:

  • Replacing a single tooth
  • Replacing several teeth with a bridge supported by implants
  • Replace all teeth with one or more fixed bridges anchored in implants
  • Stabilization of dentures

Advantages of implants:

  • The implants are the closest solution to the natural teeth
  • Allow greater stability of prosthetic structures
  • Make the reduction of the neighboring teeth (usually performed in the dental bridges) unnecessary
  • May decrease the physiological loss of bone tissue resulting from tooth extraction
